Land Drainage for SW Transit Corridor Goes to Nelson River
The first bit of work for still unannounced mode for the Southwest Rapid Transit Corridor — for drainage, is going to local construction company Nelson River Construction, so says Average City blog.
Interestingly, AC says they’ll be using a TBM (tunnel boring machine) to do the work starting this May.

So much stimulus talk has Winnipeg excited for infrastructure money, particularly for rapid transit—a recurring media topic since 1959, when Toronto transportation engineer Norman D. The Great Divide
It appears that there is a difference of opinion when it relates to monorail technology here in PegTown.
Some Depression Era citizens of Winnipeg were supportive of the Juba Monorail. Even after Juba’s death, senior Winnipeggers look in favour of former Mayor Juba’s unrealized plans for the Southwest Transit Corridor using monorail technology.

Smartcards to replace monthly bus passes in Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg Transit is expected to implement a new fare collection technology called Smartcard within future years according to Winnipeg Transit spokesperson Ken Allen.

Winnipeg Transit is moving to an electronic farebox system by 2011.
But moving to an electronic system also can have its disadvantages, such as what happened in Vancouver.
