Where are the sunspots? Are we headed to another mini-ice age?

As I’ve been listening to AM DX since the U.S. Federal election to learn as much as I can about this Barrack Obama guy, I’ve been impressed by the numerous AM radio talk radio stations that I can receive from hundreds of kilometres away.

To receive these stations doesn’t take a sophisticated radio, but some do have better quality AM sections in them.

So as I spent the weekend looking at various AM and shortwave DX’ing info, I stumbled upon a couple of websites that say that we are currently in a low sunspot cycle. There are currently NO sunspots on the Sun. None. Nada.

People who are into DX’ing radio communications are aware of the 11 year solar cycle. Since January we are at the start of Cycle 24.

So the environmentalists are always claiming the Earth is heating up and call it “global warming” (1984, 1988, 1991, 1999, 2002 were hot years in Winnipeg) and when we enter a colder phase, apologize, and call it “climate change” (1990, 1992, 1993, winter of 2000-2001, summer of 2004 2005 and 2007 were cold years in Winnipeg).

The reality is that it is the Sun, billions and billions of kilometres away that is affecting the Earth’s climate, and not really how many cars we drive.

“Green” in other words has just been a HUGE marketing thing the past couple of decades and people have been falsely led to believe that they can actually affect change if they drive a smaller car, or take transit. “Do it for the environment!” they say.

The truth is that having a proper mass transit system for metropolitan Winnipeg — an underground subway, will NOT affect the environment either way, BUT it will significantly reduce the amount of buses and private automobiles which produces congestion, not global warming, or cooling.

And yes folks, this means that we’re headed for a frigid Winter of 2008-09.
