TRUMail – October 10, 2008
Hi guys,
I just wanted to say that I agree with alot of your opinions on your site. I used to live in Winnipeg, but now I live in Calgary. I feel that BRT is a huge waste of money, lets face it, it starts nowhere, goes through no where, and ends no where. Not a good plan for any transit service, the only people that this busway will benefit is a group of hard core railfans who can take advantage of the stations in the middle of Fort Rouge yard.
Every article that I have ever read on the subject states that Rail service will always draw more riders than BRT. You can do almost anything, fancy stations etc, but at the end of the day, if it looks like a bus, sounds like a bus, and smells like a bus, its still a bus. (and in Winnipeg’s case, a bus that takes you no where near where you want to go) A Subway, or LRT is clean, quiet, and in the end will cost less per rider to operate than BRT.
I only hope that the city will come to its senses, cancel this project, and work on some sort of rail based system.
Sincerely,
Aaron Wood
